A seAries of conferences organized by ASCER spreading the use of ceramics in sustainable architecture.
ASCER under the development plan of the ceramics sector in Germany, has organized a conference in Cologne on Spanish pottery, and more particularly on the Spanish ceramic floor and wall tiles for architectural projects. The conference and exhibition will be held from 16 to 21 June at the headquarters of SIDISpot (Best of Spanish Interior Design), in the German city of Cologne. Eight Spanish ceramics manufacturers participating in the sample: Aztec Ceramics, Ceracasa, Decorative Ceramics, Saloni Ceramics, Ceramics Vives, Grespania, Italgres and Roca.
Aimed particularly at public primary architects of the fair on Wednesday, June 18, held a series of lectures on the new fields of application of ceramic tiles in the architecture. ETH architect Hans Drexler of the Technical University of Darmstadt, focused his presentation on the key role of the tiles to achieve greater energy efficiency in construction. Then the architect Cristina Chu studying architecture Patxi Mangado presented examples of the use of Spanish ceramics in public spaces in contemporary architecture, such as the Spanish Pavilion at Expo Zaragoza, an example of sustainable architecture also.
Moreover, on Thursday 19, a conference aimed at more specialized and professional tiled / fitted and centered on the Spanish offer, new developments and application areas.

Michio Fujiwara was a celebrated potter in the city of Hiroshima, Japan. As an apprentice, he learned the potter’s art in the early 1920s. Over the years he became especially well-known for his yunomis and tea ceremony ceramics.
Michio’s son, Ichiro Fujiwara, was born in 1921. He served his country as a much decorated pilot in the Japanese Imperial Navy. On December 7, 1941, the youthful Ichiro lead the first air wing attack on Pearl Harbor. Later in the war, in a furious air and sea battle against the American fleet, he was credited with inflicting heavy damage on the USS Missouri. Ichiro would survive World War II and had planned to open a teahouse/restaurant in peacetime. An important feature of this venture would include his father’s very famous yunomis. But in an ironic turn of unintended consequences, that was not to be.
